Following a weekend recce in Somerset, we’ve updated the list of recommended hotels and inns. The majority are pretty close but there are also a few further afield.
We don’t want to impose our dodgy taste in pubs on you. So the good news is there’s a metric tonne of good inns, B&Bs and hotels in the area – not to mention AirBnB or specialist websites. Google is your friend in this regard.
The Queens Arms: Sherborne, 3.4 miles from NCC, £250+/room for 2 nights. Charming pub with good food. It’s walkable from the venue. In fact, if you climb the nearby hill, you can see NCC and an Iron Age fort. We plan to walk here for lunch on Friday. Fatties amongst you should arrive just in time for pudding.
The Kings Arms: Sherborne, 4.4 miles from NCC, £290/room for 2 nights. The sign is to scale.
The White Hart: Somerton, 11 miles from NCC, £250-£390/room for 2 nights. Gastro pub with charming rooms in a lovely village. Stunning grouting.
At the Chapel: Bruton, 7.3 miles from NCC, £250/room for 2 nights. Swanky converted chapel for those of you who take your morning coffee with two spoonsful of desecration. Bruton is a pretty village. A five minute walk away is the very cool Hauser + Wirth art gallery and Piet Oudolf landscape garden.
Further Afield: If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, these are tremendously boingy examples of the species.
The Beckford Arms: Fonthill Gifford, 23 miles from NCC. £300/room for 2 nights. Gorgeous pub, definitely worth a visit. If you ring, don’t mention the wedding as they don’t like being used as a hotel for weddings, their restaurant being something of a thing. They will literally kill you if you have ever been to a wedding. Awesome beer garden.
Lord Poulett Arms: 19 miles from the venue in Hinton Saint George. £220-ish for two nights. Again never mention weddings. You are all CONFIRMED BACHELORS on a Satanic retreat.
The Talbot Inn: Mells, 19 miles from NCC. £130/night for 1 night. Sister inn to the Beckford. Tremendous right-angles.
Semley Cottage: Semley, 21 miles from NCC £275/night for three bedrooms. Both chimneys included.
Below are some other recommendations:
Near NCC: NCC has a list of one to two bedroom accommodations super close to the venue at mostly very reasonable prices
Visit Sawdays and enter ‘North Cadbury’ as the location you wish to stay near – lots of good options here, from cottages, to pubs, inns and hotels (use the filter to select). This will have less expensive options.
